Women’s basketball is experiencing a golden moment and on top of that comes the athletic struggle of the WNBA. Game 4 of the WNBA Finals between the Aces of Las Vegas and the Liberty of New York was the finale of a season in which, among others, Brittney Grinner returned after being held hostage in Russia following the outbreak of war.
But let’s get back to the game and the championship. Absolute star A’ja Wilson, who led the Las Vegas defense and offense with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Thanks to this performance and consistency throughout the series, the player also won the prestigious Finals MVP award WNBA.
The game ended with a score of 70-69 in favor of Las Vegas, which thanked the basketball gods for the final shot that New York threw through Courtney Vandersloot and missed.
The first back-to-back in over 20 years for the WNBA and Las Vegas
Tonight was a back-to-back like you don’t see often. They have been missing two championships in a row since the 2002 season, when the legendary Lisa Leslie’s Los Angeles Sparks won their second title.
This is the second national title for Las Vegas and thanks to this success its player Candace Parker went down in the history of Stars and Stripes women’s basketball. Perhaps the most talented player in the world actually won her third WNBA title with the third different team. In previous triumphs, she wore the jersey of the aforementioned Sparks for the first time in 2016 and the jersey of the Chicago Sky in 2021. The player, who is now approaching her 38th birthday, is rightly one of the legends of the segmented ball by not applying too long from now on to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
