A Valtellina Cup full of satisfaction for Rally Sport Evolution, which returned from its appointment valid for the second zone of the ACI Sport Rally Cup with an important haul consisting of three podiums from four cars lined up.
The best weekend between Saturday and Sunday was Giacomo Perego, paired with Nico Mostacchi in a Peugeot 208 Rally4, with whom he clinched a class win that eluded him by just over eight seconds and settled for second place, giving him third Earned a place on the podium in the RC4N.
A balance that is reflected in the leadership in the CRZ and the Michelin Trofeo Italia, while in the context of the R Italian Trophy, the flag bearer of the Ranica racing team is the first pursuer of the leader.
“An excellent result,” says Perego, “which allows us to be first in the CRZ, in the Michelin Trofeo Italia and second in the R Italian Trophy.” Many thanks to the team for providing me with a perfect car and has a fantastic organization. It’s a pleasure to race with them.”
Some setbacks along the way, such as Saturday night’s race when he overtook the competitor in front of him, partially slowed down the good performance of Matteo Ghirardi, in the first with Fausto Adamoli and his Peugeot 208 Rally4.
The Bergamo team’s second striker made a good comeback on Sunday, culminating in a crucial overtake in the closing stages that earned him third place in class and fifth in the RC4N group, and sixth in the provisional CRZ.
“After the disappointment at home in the Orobian Prealps, we wanted to do well here” – says Ghirardi – “and in a game that is completely new to me, I would say that it went well”. On Saturday, especially in the first race, we started careful as it was my first time racing with Fausto. At the Night Special we caught the competitor in front of us and he couldn’t show us a way out. We lost a lot of time but got off to a good start on Sunday and thanks to the team’s setup tips we were able to make it onto the podium. Many thanks to the whole team, to a perfect Fausto, to my family and to all the partners who support us in this 2023 season.”
Positive debut in Valtellina also for Matteo Brignoli, together with Davide Bozzo in a Renault Clio Rally5, third overall in class and a good fifth overall in the RC5N group.
For him, an important tally of points that allows him to finish second in the CRZ and the Michelin Trofeo Italia and third in the R Italian Trophy.
“It was the first time in Valtellina,” says Brignoli, “and I have to admit that the race is beautiful and well organized.” We didn’t have much time to prepare for this away game, but I have to say that we’ve grown and have improved test after test. We’re not in bad shape in the three championships we’re chasing, but we’ll have to work hard in the 1000 Miglia if we want to aim for the coup. Excellent team, great Claudio Albini. Many thanks to all partners.”
A two-day event dedicated to removing all the rust accumulated during a year-long stop will take place at the foot of the eighth signed by Giammaria Vitali, on his right Jessica Marconato.
The Lombard Renault Clio Rally5 driver, who finished second on these roads last year, could not repeat himself and achieved a significant increase that satisfied him.
