John IsnerThe 38-year-old announced on social media this Wednesday evening that the US Open will be the last tournament of his career. Isner, the main figure in US men’s tennis since the retirement of Andy Roddick, a former top 10 player in the world, winner of 16 ATP titles and one of the best serves in history, is currently outside the top 100 and will participate in the first tournament last time thanks to a wildcard.
Among other things, Isner will always go down in tennis history for winning the longest match in the history of the sport, a record that will never be broken due to rule changes in Grand Slam tournaments. The victory over Frenchman Nicholas Mahut in the first round of Wimbledon 2010 lasted 11 hours and 5 minutes.
