Daniele Orsato, internationally renowned referee, told Corriere della Sera about the election and some of the background
A new championship begins and in addition to the games, the teams and the players, the referees will also get involved in the joint discussions. The most famous of them is Daniele Orsato: the 47-year-old spoke to Corriere della Sera about a job that has undoubtedly made him number one in Italy and one of the most prestigious at international level.
REFEREE – “We are a family. I think they like me because I say things to their faces. I learned a lot from the masters, such as Stefano Farina. I kept quiet and listened. Do you see that over there? He’s very good, he can go international, but he has to shut up and learn. As I said before everyone, I’m the eldest and I’m still learning. If I do it, you can do it too.”
ADVICE FOR A YOUNG REFEREE – “Less TV series, less Playstation, less internet.” People think referees are out of this world, but they are just like any other kid. With the same strengths and weaknesses. And the same distractions. There is no such thing as perfect refereeing, but you have to try. And perfection consists of details. The information will be corrected by work».
THE FIRST DREAM – «The electrician. As a child, I wanted to understand why the light came on. I studied at the vocational school in Vicenza and then found a job. The first day I put on the blue jumpsuit, I had the tool kit in my hand. That’s when I realized I had made it.
THE CHOICE TO BECOME AN ARBITRATOR – “It is by chance and a friend’s persistence. I went to the Schio section with him because it was closer. I was thrilled: I went home and said to my mother: “I’ll be in Serie A in 16 years.” He thought I was an idiot. It was 1992 and I made my Serie A debut in 2006.”
