In Group B of the Serie C Championship are the Project star Italy made his debut with a beautiful 3-1 (28-26, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19) in the friendly walls of the Palazzetto dello Sport in Rosolina against Bassano volleyball.
In the first set, PSV immediately went up to 24-19 when Bassano pulled together and forced the Deltines to take the lead, which they won 28-26. The second half of the game was therefore played point by point, with PSV trying to extend the lead first to 13:8 and then to 20:14. However, the Vicenza team tried to dictate the pace and stayed at 17, but this time the project did well to limit it and maintain the lead, closing at 25. The third set could have been the one that ended the game, after it opened with a good 8-0 break from Chiara Nordio. Unfortunately, however, there was a reaction from Bassano, who did not want to give up his weapons. The Vicenza team first drew 12:12 and then 14:14. From then on it went point by point until Bassano briefly took the lead 18:16. The project fought for every ball, reaching first 19:19, then 22:22, but the guests, having more oxygen in their bodies, gave a boost that led to them finishing with 25:23.
Strengthened by the set win, the Vicenza team tried to corner the Delta Tigers, who, however, maintained high concentration and competitive spirit as required by coaches Christian Marzolla and Dario Bovolenta. First they take the lead 6:3, then it’s a draw 8:8. Bassano’s last attack ended 16:16. The strong group led by captain Sofia Mancin therefore used their remaining energy by winning the match point 24:19, which served Alessia Lisi well and secured the first victory in the championship.
Coach Marzolla explained: “The girls were very good at approaching the game the right way. It wasn’t easy to take home the three points against an opponent made up of young and very physically active athletes. We have started this long adventure in the right way, we must continue on this path and we will achieve a lot of satisfaction.”
Also satisfied Coach Bovolenta: “We knew we were dealing with perhaps the smartest team in the group. We knew that their blocking and serving could get us into trouble, but despite everything, we managed to prevent our opponents from hurting us with these two basic principles. Congratulations to the girls who played a hard game with heart. Three golden points that will enable us to make the best possible use of this two-week break, during which we will hopefully be able to recover from some physical problems.”
Applause comes from President Mirco Mancin: “The opposing team was really well positioned, but our team had the stubbornness and strength needed to show what they were made of. The results of our training work and the winning mentality that I have always demanded are visible. Now let’s take a breather thanks to the break, but without letting our guard down in anticipation of the first away game.”
The project will return to the field on Saturday November 4th at 8:00 p.m. in the Comunale at the Stigliano gym in Santa Maria di Sala (VE) at the home of the Urban Piovan Group.
