Lorenzo Musetti, first time in the semifinals in Barcelona
Jannik Sinner withdrew from the ATP 500 in Barcelona, so no quarter-final derby against Lorenzo Musetti, who entered the semi-finals of the Catalan tournament without a game.
Here are Sinner’s words, entrusted to social media. “Sad to have to give up today’s game in Barcelona. I haven’t been feeling well for a few days. Today the discomfort has worsened and I cannot play. I will take some time to rest and recover. Thanks for all your support and good luck to Lorenzo for the rest of the event.”

Jannik’s testimony clarifies the reasons that led to his bitter decision not to play for a much-anticipated game in Italy and which could have propelled him to the semi-finals of the Catalan tournament.
The first reason for withdrawal was “injury”. A second tweet from the tournament spoke of “illness”, i.e. an illness or illness.
Yesterday, after the hard-fought win against Nishioka, Jannik ruled out an injury and only spoke of fatigue and cramps. The withdrawal came at the last minute as the Barcelona tournament social channel had shared the day’s schedule at 10.50am including the expected blue derby as the first midfield game which unfortunately will not be played.

We’ll see if Jannik Sinner recovers to play regularly at the Masters 1000 in Madrid. Seeded, he certainly won’t take the field until next Friday, so a full week to recover.
