Earthquake danger and eruption in Italythe magma chamber fills up.
What we present to you could have all the makings of a nightmare scenario, but at the moment it seems quite complicated to confirm because – as the expert pointed out – we know for sure that the magma chamber is filling, but we know the critical one point not. Obviously there are parameters and advice that can be followed to avoid the worst. All the details in our in-depth analysis.
Earthquake danger and eruption in Italy, the magma chamber is filling up, the details
In a recent interview with napoli.corriere.it the volcanologist prof. Giuseppe De Natale gave the exact words:
‘The uplift almost perfectly mirrors the subsidence observed from about 1985 to 2003. In recent months we have exceeded the maximum height of 1984, now we are several centimeters higher.
The problem is that today the internal pressure is the highest we have ever experienced. NOWe don’t know exactly what the critical point of no return is.
All we can say with certainty is that seismicity will only increase as long as ground uplift continues‘.
However, these are the prof’s advice:
‘We need to actually make areas of higher risk resilient. That means consolidating the buildings and rationalizing the road network. After that it is clear that a decreasing population density would also play a role‘.
