The ATP infographic of the best tournaments of the season
The ATP has announced the 2023 awards for the best tournaments of the year in the three categories 1000, 500 and 250: they are the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, the Queen’s Club in London and the Nordea Open in Bastad.
Great confirmation for the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells, which was named the best event in its category for the ninth time in a row. Highly appreciated by players for its perfect service offering and its unique location in the California desert, the tournament that opens the US spring “Double Sunshine” remains a reference point for all other events. “We are honored that players are once again voting Indian Wells as their favorite 1000 tournament of the year,” said Tournament Director Tommy Haas. “This award is a fitting recognition of all the wonderful tournament staff, volunteers, fans and so many others who breathe life into the BNP Paribas Open each year and contribute to the ongoing success of our event.”
A confirmation also for the “Queen’s” tournament in London, the classic stage in the run-up to Wimbledon, after the success in 2022. It is the fifth trophy to receive an ATP 500, after those of 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2022 “We are delighted that the players have been voted ATP 500 Tournament of the Year again this year,” said Chris Pollard, the tournament’s director of digital, technology and events. “The LTA takes great pride in continually improving the experience of players participating in the tournament and this award is a recognition of that hard work.” Interestingly, both Indian Wells and Queen’s 2023 were won by Carlos Alcaraz.
Andrey Rublev, on the other hand, was the winner of the Best 250 of 2023, the historic clay court tournament in Bastad, Sweden. A nice recognition for a tournament that celebrated its 75th anniversary this year. Bastad won the award for the best event in this category for 11 years in a row (2002 – 20112). “The entire team and volunteers are extremely happy and proud to receive this award,” said Christer Hult, CEO and Managing Director of the Nordea Open. “Our goal is to provide all players with the highest quality on and off the pitch, regardless of their ranking. We want all players to be treated like No. 1.”
