In his first return as an opponent in Arizona, Chris Paul had a direct confrontation not with his former teammates, but with his eternal rival, referee Scott Foster. The veteran, known for his previous clashes with the referee, was sent off in protest after two consecutive technical fouls before half-time.
In the match that marked Paul’s return to Phoenix as an opponent, his historic rivalry with Foster came to the fore. After protesting against Kevin Durant, Paul received a technical foul. He didn’t back down and immediately received a second technical examination, which resulted in his expulsion. At the time of his ejection, Paul had accumulated 6 points and 6 assists, with his team trailing by 16 points at halftime. Despite a comeback attempt, the game ended in a 123:115 defeat.
Golden State coach Steve Kerr, already struggling with Draymond Green’s absence, tried to defend Paul but received a technical foul from Foster. After the game, Foster justified the coaching assigned to Paul as a response to “unsportsmanlike conduct.”
Kerr, however: “I think Scott saw that Chris wouldn’t stop protesting and that’s why he gave him the second technical, or at least that was the explanation.” In my opinion, Chris didn’t deserve the expulsion: the first Manager was absolutely right, but the second one wasn’t necessary. Everyone on the pitch is frustrated, but the responsibility lies with the referees.
