Riccardo Piatti took to his social channels to comment on the great week that his former student Jannik Sinner had at the ATP Finals. Let’s report the coach’s words.
“Many people have asked me for a comment on Jannik’s game yesterday and his week at the finals in Turin in general: journalists, friends, professionals or just the curious. To avoid misunderstandings, I prefer to rely on my communication channels and respond to everyone from here.
First of all, I would like to congratulate Jannik publicly (since I have already paid him privately) on this wonderful week, he played an excellent tournament and tennis at a high level. I would also like to say that this doesn’t surprise me that much because I always believed in him and I always knew that Jannik was ready to achieve great things because he has always shown constant growth in recent years, incredible ability to work and Consistency in results and improvements. I can only be happy about this graduation, because as for any teacher, no matter what age, it is nice to see how his “students” grow and become great both physically and athletically. Yesterday’s final is certainly just the first of a long winning streak and I wish Jannik the best of luck for this present and for the future. As I have always said and will always say, “Go ahead and have fun.”
Finally, I would also like to thank him for not listening to the useless criticism he received during his recent non-participation in Davis, regarding his lack of connection “with the shirt” and the question of whether he identifies as Italian feels or not. Sterile criticism that came from people who weren’t competent and didn’t know how to perform at a high level.
Jannik, a week like this at the finals, the future Slams you will win and the world rankings are the best way to show your commitment to Italy and make all Italians proud to have someone like you among the best athletes in the world to have
Richard.”
