After 133 days of silence, LeBron James has finally spoken about his return for his 21st season in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers. “I feel like I still have a lot to give,” James said during the Lakers’ media day.
James, who turns 39 in December, said he made the decision after weeks of personal consideration and discussions with his family. He also said he would dedicate his season to his son Bronny, who is recovering from cardiac arrest and successful surgery.
As for his future, James, who has a $51.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season, said he is not ready to dedicate himself to basketball beyond this season. “I don’t know,” he replied when asked if this could be his last season.
James has also expressed interest in representing the U.S. Olympic team again in 2024, but has not committed. “I’m interested,” he said. “Lets see what happens.”
Despite injuries and age, James is confident he can still perform at an elite level. “I feel different,” he said. “I’m definitely not a 21-year-old. But as far as my energy levels go, I feel pretty good.”
