Next September 17, Olimpia Milano will have the privilege of playing European runners-up and Greek champions Olympiacos Piraeus on the day dedicated by the Greek club to its legend Vassilis Spanouliswho retired two years ago and is currently the top scorer in EuroLeague history with 4,455 points, is one of only two players, along with Nando De Colo, to have surpassed 4,000 points in his career.
“Olimpia Milano is proud and honored to be able to take part in the game that Vassilis Spanoulis will be celebrating,” said Ettore Messina, president of the basketball department and head coach of Olimpia. Spanoulis was a player of incredible quality who influenced a generation of athletes and fans across Europe with his creativity, crucial plays and longevity. I never had the opportunity to coach him but I saw how difficult it was to train against a player who was a nightmare for all of us. In addition, he was not only a great fighter and a winning player, but also a class averse and a quality person. September 17th will be a special occasion for me and Olimpia to celebrate a true champion.”
Olimpia will play a friendly behind closed doors two days earlier, again against Olympiacos Piraeus.
