Unlucky start for Italian tennis players at the Chennai Open in India, where Francesco Maestrelli and Luca Nardi suffered defeats in the first round on hard courts of the Indian tournament.
Francesco Maestrelli, he was the No. 6 seed and 179th in the ATP rankings and Luke Nardi, seeded at number 5 and 164th in the world rankings. Maestrelli made his debut against Australia’s Dane Sweeny, currently ranked 254th in the ATP rankings, but lost 6-3, 6-4. Instead, Nardi challenged the Czech qualifier Petr Nouza, currently ranked 630th in the world, but lost 6:4, 7:5 in the second set despite a 5:2 lead and two set points.
